a lot of people see nothing wrong with some things…until they are wearing the same shoes of someone they did not give a fuck about. then they see EVERYTHING wrong with the picture and want the empathy/sympathy they refused to extend to someone else.
it is my opinion that we should not HAVE to experience an “injustice” to give a damn about someone other than ourselves. if that is the only way we are able to show compassion, it explains why so many individuals feel the current state of society will never improve.
the internet has had such a pivotal role in everyones life. even those who despise the matrix, have to be plugged in at some point. online, we get to witness the constant dehumanizing of others simply because we are not friends “in real life” and/or never had face to face contact. it is my observation that this happens because of the exceptions we individually make. as if our humanity means more than the person sitting next to us.
while I am optimistic that balance will kick in eventually, I am also realistic. I know that it will get far more terrible before it improves. there will be more emotionally broken casualties. I sincerely hope it gets better sooner than later…
